HONG KONG SCENERY
The scenery of Hong Kong is often associated with a collection of towers that resembles a forest, a concrete urban jungle. In reality, about 75% of Hong Kong’s land is green space, while 25% is developed urban or built-up land. This proportion is similar to Sweden, Finland, Japan, and other countries with high forest coverage. The major difference, however, is that most of the forests covering Hong Kong’s green areas were planted by human hands. Both the city and the nature of Hong Kong were made by people. None of us know the original essence of the land in our home of Hong Kong. In the past, this land was home to old primary forests that were different from today’s young secondary forests. The plants and animals that lived in those primary forests were also different. We will recreate and redesign the lost nature that humans have altered.

HONG KONG FOREST
Hong Kong’s landscape has been altered by human hands in the past. We aim to redesign, repair, and enhance the landscape for a destroyed part of this city, with our own hands. Based on thorough investigation of the land’s current deteriorating condition, we have selected a variety of suitable tree and plant species that benefit the local ecosystem to create a new everlasting forest. We will plant this new forest together with local residents and children through hands-on educational workshops on the environment and sustainability. So, this forest will truly be a “Forest for All,” created by and for the people of Hong Kong to enrich biodiversity and provide habitats for local flora and fauna. With this forest, all of us can nurture a more sustainable city and nature in Hong Kong for future generations. Forest for All will grow together with the children who plant the young trees, all as part of Hong Kong’s thriving life.
1. Learning about Nature
Our important mission is to communicate the importance of trees and forests for all forms of life on our planet. We humans and nonhumans all live together in one shared home of Earth. Forests sustain our inhabited world. All life thrives on the many forms of sustenance that forests offer, including oxygen, freshwater, carbon storage, and habitats for many terrestrial species. Without the healthy ecosystems of forests, life as we know it would be drastically different. We can only live in harmony with forests.
2. Play and Protect
Learn about the diverse species that inhabit the mountain, how trees take root and become part of the environment, and the importance of nurturing a healthy ecosystem. Rediscover a connection to nature and foster a sense of responsibility towards the environment by planting trees with us.
